WHO YOU ARE
Let’s take a wild guess….
About You.
Hopefully you’re here because you’ve seen content of mine and want to give it all some context, and by extension, some credibility. Awesome. And welcome.
You might just be here for a bit of a stalk, and that’s cool too. All the love.
When I created this I envisioned that you are a creative. Or in the creative industry somehow.
Maybe like me, you’re a creative entrepreneur.
Or just starting the journey on how to get paid to do whatever your chosen medium is.
Hopefully I can help with a few things.
What I can’t help with,
I can’t help you make a million dollars in 12 weeks, because I haven’t done that.
I can’t help you buy a lambo and get a million followers on social, because I haven’t done that.
I can’t help you be the world greatest cinematographer and wins awards because hey, I haven’t done that either.
What I can do though,
I CAN show you how I built a creative business from Zero to 2 Million dollars a year, because I have done that.
I CAN show you how I make a living creating and getting paid to do what I love, because I have done that.
I CAN show you how I feel financial, spiritually, mentally and physically strong and free, cause I have done that.
I CAN show you how I created and designed the exact life I wanted to live on my own terms because its exactly what I have done.
Here’s me a few years ago, let me know if any of it sounds familiar,
I felt lost and couldn’t see a future direction
I was looking desperately for mentors and guidance
I was thinking “I have no idea what Im doing, how do I make this work”
I compared myself to other people I thought were crushing it and way more talented than me
I felt alone
I felt like I was running out of time, and as a result was always on edge
I felt trapped in my environment, like stuck in mud
I was busting my arse doing 10, 12, 14 hour days and not getting financially ahead
I was carrying a few “extra pounds” and putting my physical health last because I was “grinding”
I was listening to all the podcasts, reading all the books, digesting all the content, but was feeling so overwhelmed by it all and didn’t know what to prioritise
My work wasn’t aligning to my purpose
I think as creatives, the commercial aspect of what we do often alludes us. I watched an interview with Prince once, one of my favourite musicians, and he said that for creatives, the art itself is the success.
And I felt that.
We have an indescribable urge to create, in whatever discipline. We even study how to do this technically, philosophically, historically in many cases.
But we are rarely taught commercially.
And the missing link is value. What value does what we create provide?
And then what is that value worth, and to who? Because they can be very different things.
So if you are a creative in any field,
Photographer
Cinematographer
Artist
Musician
Tattooist
Designer
Architect
Writer
Director
Producer
Etc
Together we can design and create the life you want.
Here’s somewhere easy to start.
I have 6 pathways. This is based on Tony Robbins 6 Human Needs. 6 goals that I’ve found creatives long for.
Whether you’re freelance, in a company, have an agency or want to start your own business, Im going to guess that one of the below 6 things appeal to you, whether you’ve thought consciously about it or not.
Creative Need #1: Certainty.
You want to create and not have to worry about bills. You value stability. You’ll ideally have a steady income doing what you love to do day in day out. Everything around you is taken care of, you want to cruise, stress free and create some art.
Creative Need #2: Uncertainty/Variety.
You love adventure. Discovering something new, in the world and in yourself. No two days are the same. You’d love to travel the world, meet new people, create art, work of a variety of different projects, absorb all the wonders the world has to offer.
Creative Need #3: Significance.
You want to be recognised for your work. You want your name to be synonymous with your discipline. You want to win the award, get the ovation, have people look up to you. You want your work to matter.
Creative Need #4: Connection/Love.
You want to connect through your art. Bring people together. Nothing makes you happier. You may want to be part of a team. You give your heart and soul to your work, and love it when people reciprocate that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Creative Need #5: Growth.
You want to keep getting better, to improve. You know your artistic and creative potential exceeds where you are now, and you’re doing everything you can to chase that person you were meant to be.
Creative Need #6: Contribution.
You want to make the world a better place. Your work will make an impact. Whether its making an impact on one person or contributing to a global change, you want to be part of it, and contribute your gifts to something bigger than yourself.
Does one, maybe even two of those resonate? Figuring out where you are and what you want, typically helps determine your next move.
For me personally, I’m in Contribution and Growth mode. These can always change, but that’s me right now.
But thats why I’m here, giving what I’m giving to you.
I’ll be trying as hard as possible to share my own experiences and opinions, and not just regurgitate what every one else is saying.
My favourite thing over the years has been helping creatives, just like you (hopefully) grow and evolve and self-discover their way to see just how amazing life can be.
Keep creating.
