How you show up matters.

I teach this to all my photographers — and it works for me.

It’s a lesson I learned from a very prolific session guitarist in Sydney.

He was that guy known for incredible rock licks — think ‘80s and ‘90s: big hair, ripped jeans, scarves, the whole vibe.

He told me that if he walked into a session with some corporate client wearing jeans and a t-shirt, they’d be visibly disappointed.

And it affected their perception of the outcome — regardless of what he played.

But he found that even if it was 10 a.m., if he dressed in the full LA rocker look, the reception was way more positive.

Playing the exact same thing.

So I encourage my photographers to turn up on-site looking like creative badasses.

Be authentic to who you are — but also put on a show for the client.

Most of our clients are suits. Corporate world.

They don’t want just another person turning up with a camera.

Everything’s a show.

Create the fantasy. Look the part.

This has worked for me.

This has worked for hundreds of photographers and creatives I’ve booked for gigs.

It’s not just about the work itself.

Create the experience.

And create your life.
